There is a rapidly growing volume of batteries being sold. Some market predictions point to a 100X rise in installed battery capacity in coming years. As more and more e-bikes, e-scooters and e-devices are brought to market, there is also a growing volume of returned used lithium-ion battery packs.
Batteries are collected, but there is no ecosystem in place to disassemble, test and reuse. Currently all packs are recycled/disposed but not reused, resulting in large volumes of avoidable waste. In The Netherlands alone almost 300 tons of eBike batteries are recycled each year. A volume that is expected to grow 20-30% year on year.
At the same time producers of eMobility solutions are increasingly pressured to take responsibility for what happens to the batteries they put in the marketplace. They struggle with this expanding Producer Responsibility.
Refurb Battery is convinced this can be changed. We developed a business model and manufacturing process to safely select, harvest, test and reuse battery cells. We use these battery cells in energy storage solutions that can be used to electrify building sites, support electric vehicle charging or help grid balancing and peak demand management. With every battery cell Refurb Battery reuses, we make the creation of a new battery cell unnecessary and save raw materials, waste and energy.
